It was a news story that caused global outrage: the 2012 Delhi gang rape. Jyoti Singh, a 23-year-old physiotherapy student, was violently raped on a moving bus in Delhi, later dying of horrific internal injuries. Now, Delhi Crime a new TV show on Netflix recounts the events surrounding the crime – with the first trailer having dropped today.
The trailer begins with DCP Vartika Chaturvedi (played by Shefali Shah) dealing with the scene of the crime by saying: “This crime is not just heinous. It’s insanity.” Written and directed by Richie Mehta, the seven-part series, which is available to watch from March 22, recounts the real-life investigation by telling it through a police perspective. Having premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2019, and starring Adil Hussain, Rasika Dugal and Rajesh Tailang, the series delves into the emotional toll the crime took on the police to bring the perpetrators to justice.
